Everyone in my family is probably going to forget my birthday again this year, which is sad, but at least someone remembered...



Meanwhile I am housesitting in the lower east side of Manhattan and gearing up for a day of eating and drinking and partying. New York City is not Hawai'i or Paris or Tokyo, but it will do for this year. Next year I'm thinking I'll spend my birthday in London.

I've been feeling lost and alienated lately. I took up several risky endeavors that didn't play out as I'd hoped they would, but I think the thing to remember is that most people never even find the courage to fail. At least I managed to escape my family in rural Georgia. If I accomplish nothing else in my life, that will have been enough.

I recently read an article about December birthdays being the worst (forgotten, birthday presents in Christmas paper, etc.).

FWIW I think you're right about risk. A friend started his own business and it didn't pan out, he poo-poos it now but I've always respected and admired him for trying.

Jupiter takes almost 2560 earth days to orbit the sun, and its moon Ganymede orbits the planet every seven days, meaning that the satellite spends 1277 earth days a year in total darkness as it hurtles through space with its thick layer of ice covering an internal ocean that contains more water than has ever existed on earth.

What I'm trying to say is that anyone who ever attempts anything is kind of a hero.
