A Link Between Worlds, Hero Mode

rynlingI started replaying A Link Between Worlds on the plane home from Tokyo, and I just finished it yesterday evening. This time around I played it in Hero Mode, which I've never attempted before. It wasn't that difficult, but the beginning was full of quick and dirty deaths because three-heart Link goes down with only one hit.
Unlike Ocarina of Time, there isn't anything substantially different in the Hero Mode of A Link Between Worlds. Link takes double damage, of course, and at the end he can fight the old man in Kakariko Village who handles the Street Pass challenges. In addition, there's a short diary in Ravio's house, which doesn't contain any interesting information aside from the fact that Ravio debated with himself for three days before leaving Lorule. This unfortunately doesn't answer many questions, such as what precipitated this decision or how long Lorule has been in decline.
Interestingly enough, there is a "philosopher" in Lorule who serves as the counterpart to the "priest" in Hyrule. If Link uses his lantern to light the torch in the philosopher's cave, this is what he says:
Ah, light...! How long has it been since I knew such comfort? Three years...? Or an eternity...? The world outside has long darkened with the menace of the masked. *sigh* What is a little light against the rising dark? No one honors the gods anymore. So beware, child. The end is at hand.
This is interesting, because it means...
...actually you know what, I don't think anyone cares what a paragraph of stupid throwaway flavor text means, Plato references aside.
I think it might be time to take a break from the Zelda series.

Although honestly I can't promise myself that I won't ignore it until I am good and done with the HD release of FFXII, which I'm estimating is going to take at least 99 hours and 59 minutes to play. I can't wait to see more activity in that fandom, it's going to be like Christmas.
People keep trying to get me into Fire Emblem, but I never know where to start. Do you have a recommendation?

Date: 2016-07-01 12:14 am (UTC)When "The Zodiac Age" was announced, I knew with an almost physical sensation of pure dread that, in the not-that-distant future, I'd be forking over a few hundred dollars for a PS4 and said game. It's just going to happen. There won't be any choice involved. Ivalice will just...beckon. And I'll go.
Lots of the games are good! Didn't you have a Wii U? I think 7 (just called Fire Emblem in the states, since it was the first one to make it over here) and 8 (The Sacred Stones) are both available for that console's Virtual, uh, Console. Or you can resort to piracy. I'd recommend one of the two newer games (Awakening or Fates, both for the 3DS) for a series newcomer, but, like...it's $40 for either of them.

Date: 2016-07-03 04:27 pm (UTC)I apologize if I've forgotten something you've told me in the past about the consoles in your possession. It's nothing personal; it's just that my memory for small details is garbage.
The PS4 is incredible, though. Between game graphics and the way the hardware displays Blu-ray movies, I can't even begin to imagine how the technology can advance past this point. Sure, I may still be paying off my credit card, but it's a wonder to behold.
